George Dedoussis is a Professor of Human Biology at the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition of Harokopio University in Athens. He received his BSc in Biology from the University of Patras, his master's degree from the University of Technology «Compiegne» in France, and his PhD from the Medical School of Athens.
He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center of Thalassemia and as a researcher on a Fulbright scholarship at the Medical Faculty of the 'Harvard University' (Boston, USA). He has been a visiting professor for many years at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nancy, France.
As a Principal Investigator he has coordinated a large number of research projects mainly in the field of Human Molecular Genetics of cardiometabolic phenotypes and their interaction with dietary intake. He has supervised 9 PhD students that have defended, while in 5 others their dissertations are in progress.
Professor George Dedousis, is the Director of the Biology Laboratory of the EDN Division. He has published more than 280 publications in high-profile foreign-language journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, Science, the New England Journal of Medicine and Nature Genetics, and his work has been recognized by others with more than 43,000 references with h = 76 .His research focuses on the study of health indicators through heredity analysis and the impact of lifestyle on cardiovascular disease. He has received funding from national and European competing programs as well as international organizations and universities to carry out his research project.
In 2004 he participated as a partner in the European FP6 Zincage program. In 2016 was successfully evaluated for coordinating a European program “Marie Curie Rise” (Mast4health).
In 2017 he was appointed a member of the Hellenic Foundation for Innovation and Research (ELIDEK) and in 2019 he was elected Vice-President of the Foundation
He was recently honored by the Harokopio University for his distinction in the list of the 6,000 most influential scientists worldwide, resulting from the impact of their work for the last 11 years «The Highly Cited Researchers».
The HUA research group embraces biologists, clinical dieticians, epidemiologists, statistical geneticists, chemists and bioinformaticians. HUA has a specific focus on Nutrition-Dietetics, nutrient-gene interaction, design and implementation of clinical trials.

The laboratory of Human Biology has state-of the art infrastructure for the study of molecular genetics, cell biology and nutritional and lifestyle assessment.
Different cohorts including more than 5.000 biological samples constitute a large biobank with genetic and lifestyle determinants for health and chronic disease are available. All data are anonymised and stored in a secure high storage server under the supervision of experienced computer scientists.
A number of statistical programs and bioinformatics tools are available to our analysts. Our group is supported by the team of machine learning and data mining of the Department of Informatics and Telematics with expertise in algorithms designing for extracting knowledge from health related data and for scaling up existing algorithms in order to make them capable to handle huge data and design biological signature for disease prediction.
